Firefighters Rescue An Injured Owl

Firefighters are often called upon to rescue cats stuck in trees, but a recent incident in Smolensk, Russia, presented them with a less common challenge: saving an injured owl. This remarkable rescue unfolded just outside their station.

The team noticed a Ural owl in distress, lying still and vulnerable under the attack of a group of crows. Without hesitation, they intervened, scattering the crows and bringing the owl to safety within their station. Here, they provided warmth and food, nurturing the bird back to health before it could be transferred to veterinary care.

Natalia Arbuzova, a press officer, narrated the events in the western Russian city. She recalled, “The owl was motionless, its wing injured, while crows mercilessly pecked at it. The firefighters, upon noticing the scene, swiftly came to its rescue. They used a shovel to gently lift and carry the bird inside the station, placing it in a dark, quiet box to shield it from light, and tended to its needs with food.”

Thanks to the firefighters’ timely intervention and care, the owl is currently recuperating at a veterinary clinic, making steady progress towards recovery.
